Music Row: The Mechanical Licensing Collective Plans Database Webinar, Toolkit For Educators

The Mechanical Licensing Collective is presenting a webinar about the organization’s Bulk Database Feed at 11 a.m. CT on Thursday, Dec. 17, hosted by Richard Thompson (CIO) and Raphael Amselli (Technical Consultant).

The webinar will provide an overview of the format, timing and pricing of the data feed, which will be a comprehensive and invaluable resource for DSPs, music publishers, CMOs, record labels, metadata companies and others throughout the industry. Individuals interested in participating in this free webinar can register for it here

The MLC has also released its new Educator Toolkit, created to help college educators teach students, particularly those studying music and music business, about the changes to the administration of digital audio mechanical rights in the U.S. that will begin taking effect in January 2021 as a result of the landmark Music Modernization Act. Beginning next month, mechanical royalties from streaming in the U.S. will be processed and paid out by The MLC at no cost to songwriters or music publishers.

The Toolkit offers instructors a range of materials they can incorporate into their existing syllabi or use to create new course modules, including a comprehensive introductory video, a white-label customizable PowerPoint presentation, suggested classroom activities and exam questions, and a list of informational videos, articles, and other resources on copyright and the history of mechanical licensing.

Instructors and educational institutions can find out more about The MLC’s Educator Toolkit here.
